Colorado Youth State Team Qualifier

Welcome to 5280 Junior BassHunters!

Well 2009 is upon us and with the mild winter I am sure anxious to start fishing. 5280 Junior BassHunters has become an incredible club with really talented kids. Throughout this year you will have a chance to learn new tactics, fish fun tournaments, and have a chance to give back to those less fortunate then you. 5280 Youth BassHunters along with Curtis Welch of 5280 BassHunters will host the second Joseph’s Journey Big Bass Challenge to benefit Joseph’s Journey. Last year we were able to raise a substantial amount of money for this wonderful organization, dedicated to taking terminally ill children on outdoor adventures of their choosing.

On May 2nd Colorado TBF and 5280 BassHunters will host the Colorado Youth State Qualifier on Pueblo Reservoir. Two lucky kids will fish their way into a fully paid trip to Pittsburgh Pa. for the National Guard Junior World Championship. Each winner will spend three days fishing with an FLW Pro and a chance at winning a college scholarship and great prizes.

5280 Youth Fishing Experience In 2008 I was elected as the State Youth Director for Colorado and as the Director I will ensure that all measures are taken to preserve the legacy of fishing in Colorado for you. I would like each one of you to take the responsibility for every body of water in Colorado. Even if it is a small pond take the time to pick up trash laying around, ensuring that any boat you are riding in has been checked for Zebra Mussels, if you see dead fish or contaminates on the water report it. It is each one of our responsibilities to take responsibility for our own environment.
This year you will have the opportunity to fish with some of the best anglers in the state. 5280 BassHunters is home to many of the Colorado TBF State Team members and the knowledge you can learn from talking and fishing with these guys is priceless. Take the time to talk and learn from them! The season will kick off on Feb. 7, 2009 at Bass Pro Shops when the Youth Club hosts the first Reel Kids event. You will have the chance to teach new kids on casting techniques and tactics.

In 2009 we will also travel to Elkhead Reservoir in Craig, Co. This is becoming an amazing fishery and in an effort to get the youth involved up there we will have a fun fishing day. This year you all will take responsibility for other fishing adventures you would like to do. A roster will be sent to all of you and you will have the opportunity to speak amongst yourselves to decide what you would like to do. I look forward to seeing you all. Remember this as you make decisions on the path you will take. It’s not the years in your life, but the life in your years. -Abraham Lincoln-
